Bethesda has been very smart about what it tells us. Rather than going for a lot of hype they toss out teasers and let the fans do the advertising for them. Very Happy Seems to be working quite well.

If you haven't checked out the Skyrim Blog lately you should. Some nifty videos are up.

They could save a lot of money on ads... Anyone who has ever played a CRPG or heard about The Elder Scrolls series seems to be excited about Skyrim. I hope they don't screw it up and that the deadline will allow them to release a finished product (unlike Fallout New Vegas which was a nightmare before the patch and is still rather buggy).

It would be nice to have a bug free game for a change. As bug free as it can be, minor bugs can be tolerated usually. Oblivion had several annoying bugs that never got fixed. What do those professional testers do?

I think that games are so big nowadays that it would take a really long time to get them fixed before they're published. The question is would you rather play an outdated game or a buggy game? Most players prefer not to wait even if it means paying to be a beta tester.

It's not that bad when it comes to games like the Witcher because some game companies like CD Red care to fix their games and continue giving free support but it really sucks with other titles by other companies. Bioware used to support NWN pretty well but they dropped the ball on DAO.

Most issues with Fallout New Vegas come from Fallout 3 and Oblivion (the bad engine physics). The engine is getting old and that's one reason why some people have criticized Fallout New Vegas (saying it's more of the same). We've learned to live with the glitches (or have fun of them) but hopefully the most glaring flaws will only be a bad memory with Skyrim (and Fallout 4).

When I get a new game the first thing I check for is an official patch. I don't mind a few bugs as long as the game is supported but dependding on users to fix bugs I don't like. If an unofficial patch gets good user reviews I may try it but if a game is not supported by the developers and publishers after release I am not happy and will think twoice or thrice before purchasing a game from the publishers. Bethesda in my opinion which is not humble but is honest does support their games and I think takes pride in what they do. Too bad they have those nasty people who think their are the best and greatest and no one can touch them. Alass that is the way of the world online or offline.

The thing I don't like about Bethesda is all this nonsense with Games for Windows or Steam...

I haven't heard if Skyrim is going to force us to deal with that crap. I put up with steam because I like Fallout but I've seen many people posting that they didn't get Fallout New Vegas because of Steam.

I prefer Steam to Games for Windows but IMO both are really annoying. I want to have some modicum of control on what these applications do and when I want to patch my games. It seems though that in this day and age it is too much to ask.

I think it will all be a question of big money.

That being said you can play (and should play) with Steam offline. The only good thing is that we don't need the DVDs or CDs in the drive. But when you have to compound the nuisance that it represents to depend on third party programs...

I wouldn't be surprised if Skyrim was on Steam though.

Yes, Paul, it will come on that day at least here in the USA may be a bit buggy but Bethesda will have a patch up quickly. I think it will come out in UK and Europe either that day or soon after.

Any word on Steam? I've tried searching around the net but couldn't find anything conclusive. I don't think you've posted about it on your site Paul.

Nothings been mentioned yet. Similarly we've heard nothing about minimum or recommended system specs

Thanks Paul, my guess is that Bethesda know that Steam is terribly unpopular and they don't want rabid fans on their backs...

I guess we still have heard nothing about the CS.

I just hope they'll include the possibility to make lip files.

I'm slightly paranoid so I wonder whether it's not done on purpose so that the community can't release mods that are better than official DLCs! Laughing

Bethesda is smart they know that the modders extended the life of game quite a bit. They may wait and even not give us much information on the CS for the reason you give, Cara. Won't want modders making fantastic mods right off the bat. There will be no support for the CS, just toss it at us and let sink or swim. This is their own engine so hopefully if they can do lip sync so can we. Or we go for helmets or scarves that cover the face. Smile

The helmet trick works if you don't use it too much. I made a ghoul NPC follower for Fallout 3 (never uploaded him though) and used a gas mask to avoid the lip sync problem but that sort of tricks can't be used all the time. Wink

Some modders are wizards so I wouldn't be surprised given the interest Skyrim will arise in the community that the best modders will put the devs to shame. Sometimes modders really improve on the original game in so many ways that you have to wonder what they could do if they were paid for this work.

I've just finished a quest mod for Fallout New Vegas which has as much content as a DLC and is almost as polished. It must have taken the modder many long hours of labour to make this mod. I can't help but being impressed by the dedication and patience that is required by such an undertaking. Wink

I am hoping Belle Skura Saloon can come up with a good mod. Smile My basic idea (mentioned before) is a mountain village with at least one quest included, more if I can getothers interested. I hope we don't have a lip sync problem because naturally I will want diaglogue and voice actors. Six months to go.

Well it's never too early to get started with the basic concept. What characters? What type of quest? So many questions that need to be answered before getting into the toolset.

Inn with innkeeper. Houses up the mountain sides with steps leading up to them. Farmers, hunters, have to see what Skyrim has. Blacksmith, general store.

I have to get together with jez about my quest. I want it to be a funny one and keeping mum about it right now.

Ideas readily accepted. Maybe I should start a topic in the workshop. See what people come up with. TON should be able to come up with interesting quest. Very Happy

I took a look at the stats on your Blog. People from all over the world are visiting. A lot of people from the USA. It looks as if this game will be very popular here. A lot of Europeans are interested also. You have created a very popular blog. Still 5 months to go and anticipation is mounting.

I think that you have very perceptive views and that this adds immensly to the Blog. It gives people information but also something to comment on, to agree with or disagree with. It encourages them to voice their own view point. I will be away part of next week but will definitely check The Skyrim Blog out for news from E3. Bethesda should be ready to start giving out more information now. They have a preorder up on their site I believe. They will want to start getting money for all their hard work.

The first ever gameplay demo of Skyrim has taken place at E3

I was able to watch it live on the Internet, which was pretty cool. If you didn't see I have posted it on my blog

http://theskyrimblog.com/

Lasts about 6 minutes.
