PostSubject: Skyrim Beta Patch 1.6   Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:52 pm

The beta fixes the navimesh but has some other problems. With it installed I am getting naked and headless soldiers/guards. It has been in test mode for a couple of weeks now. I hope they get the bugs worked out and leave the navimesh fix in. This is getting silly. Is this game worth it?

Well, my opinion is yes, but I'm kind of obsessed with Elder Scrolls, and, unlike most, think Oblivion was a good game. For you? Maybe not. I'd say wait a bit, see what happens. Maybe if this patch releases bad, walk away from the game for a good while until they are finished patching it and there's a fan patch made, then see what the game's like.

dragon, I've gotten my money's worth from the game but I don't ever remember a game being patched so much before and still needing patching. They do seem to be putting a lot of effort into the game but where were the beta testers for the original game and creation kit? Why does each patch fix some things but then cause other problems that didn't exist before?

It's simple really, they wanted to stick to the 11.11.11 deadline and they barely made it. Next was the Creation Kit which took ages to ship out. Now they're busy trying to fix the game before unloading the first DLC (which will require another patch).

As long as they plan on selling DLCs you can expect more patches. The day they'll stop delivering extra content the support will probably come to an end. Given the fact that Skyrim is an Elder Scroll title we can expect to see some support for quite some time. In that respect Bethesda is not that bad (except maybe when they pressure Obsidian to rush FNV to the stores). Bioware/EA seem to stop supporting their games as soon as they're done with the DLCs. The best company nowadays is probaby CD Red Project because they offer patches, enhanced editions and free DLCs.

Yeah, I think they made a mistake with that 11/11/11 deadline. Boxed themselves in. They are being supportive of the game so far but as for DLCs I think I will wait until they are patched. Naked and headless guards annoy me. Backward flying dragons was both funny and annoying.

You have to remember, the people who forced Obsidian to rush FNV out and the people who made that 11.11.11 deadline and all that aren't the same people who built the game. As far as I'm concerned, Bethesda as a developer is amazing, but Bethesda as a publisher is absolutely awful.

Agreed, Bethesda is not EA games but it's not CD Red Project either. Wink

I agree. Publisher's suck. Too bad they hold the financial power.

Aye. That's why indie games are often so great: The developer is the publisher. They get to do whatever they want with the game.

Bethesda is testing the beta patch quite a while now so hopefully there will be less bugs in the live patch. Skyrim has been out almost seven months now and is still buggy.

The future of PC gaming may lie with indie developers though.

It's a mix, in my opinion. Requires balance. Indie developers could never pull off a large game, like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Mass Effect, etc., but big-name developers could never make games with such innovation as VVVVV, World of Goo, Limbo, Fez, Braid, etc.

I had a pissant bug the short time I played Skyrim -- on the PC version (screw the PS3), I couldn't travel to other towns by the corrals. I'd pay, hop in the wagon, then nothing happens and the guy keeps telling me to hurry the hell up.

Pain in the ass bug.

If that was the only bug it wasn't that bad. I'm not saying it wasn't a nuisance but it could have been worse. Contrary to appearances it's not that hard to cross the entire map especially at low levels when you can only run into a few pack of wolves and the other monsters can be avoided if you outrun them or stay clear of their camps. Once you get started with the main quest and keep running into dragons everywhere you go it's another story.

I had that problem and discovered it wasn't a bug I was overloaded. Had to go into god mode to travel in the carts. The carts are just a form of fast travel which you have to pay for. handy for getting to capitals you have not yet visited after that of not much value.

The beta patch is working well. Don't know if it has fixed everything. People are posting that it has broken mods they have. It hasn't broken any I have. I think they just don't know how to test. Some mods may need to be tweaked. I understand that SKSE has been updated already. They are certainly quick, good for them.

I have scenic travel mod installed and have a very nice profile manager from NEXUS. It can be used with Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout III and FNV. Works beautifully.

Even god mode didn't work for me.

This game sucks and I hate it. I especially hate those overgrown, overrated lizards.

I'll stick this here.

the Dawnguard DLC came on for console today and already there are reports of problems which may explain why people are having problems with SKyrim sine the 1.6 patch. Features from Dawnguard DLC were included in the patch so as to prepare the game to play with it. It could be these features that are causing lag and CTDs especially when playing with an old character. There are not so many problems when starting a new character.

Beth does it again breaks what they fixed.

Word is out that the DLC for XBox is very glitchy. All the problems being had by PC users are not affliting XBox. Hopefully if they complain Beth will actually fix the game. For me Skyrim is dead until it is fixed. The DLC does not appeal to me. Too gruesome from what I read. Crossbows or no it isn't worth it. Plus I hate those Vigilant guys.

lol! Someone in the Steam Skyrim forum just posted the greatest Skyrim post I have yet to see.

After stating that the game has started freezing up he said
"How can a game get worse this long after launch?"

Bethesda may never live this one down. Skyrim is becoming more and more of a joke each time they patch.

There nothing wrong with the game freezing over. It is appropriate since it is set in a frozen tundra. Razz

The only real problem I have with Skyrim is that it takes place so far into Tamriel's future, and tells us almost nothing about the two hundred or so years since Oblivion. I, for one, am dying to know more about the Void Nights, where Masser and Secunda disappeared for two years, then returned, with the Thalmor taking credit for bringing them back.

One thing that bothers me is not the history but the lack of evolution. No improvement in technology. The society is static.

That's very true. You'd think they'd have made some sort of progression by now.

At least they could have given some justification that would explain why technology doesn't evolve.

In a world that relies on magic you may not need new technologies that much but it is doubtful that they shouldn't make any technological breakthroughs.

I'm sure they don't want the care to become a Steampunk world but there are ways to bring some answers to these questions without stressing our abilities to suspend disbelief.

Not every one can do magic especially at the more advanced levels.

In the new DLC they finally invented the crossbow. The Nords don't trust magic so you that they at least would have made some improvements. There aren't any stoves just a bunch of fires tht would cause soot, smoke,. Those open fire places they have are laughable.

The Nords maybe resistent to cold but why are all the other people walking around in short sleeves? The temperature must drop below freezing. People can adjust to the cold but even in Anchorage, Alaska I didnot see anyone walking around in shirt sleeves except in the summer. July and August.
