Cara, you are great and have saved me from a frustration breakdown. Have install and will now go activate.

I have a lot of saves and usually save before starting something where I am going to portal somewhere. Strange that Obsidian made such a goof.

That was fun and what I like about wandering around in a well made game. First I met up with the Strange drifter. Then I ran across a NCR camp having various problems. Helped them out and now am accepted by the NCR and have an emergency radio to call them if I need to. Nice.

I set the time scale to 20 I like slower games where I have time to do things before I crawl into bed.
Thanks again, Car, not having that popup message is great. It was coming up every few minutes. Sip, sip, sip.

Did you activate Dead Money yet? It won't hurt your game and it increases the level cap. You will be warned before entering the DLC anyway so there is no point in avoiding it.

Regarding Dead Money, there are some mods that make it easier. I really like the backstory for the DLC but gameplay wise it strays away from the average FNV experience and at one point it reminded me of some platform games I used to play when I was a kid. I'm not a kid anymore so I found the whole thing frustrating and ended up installing a mod to avoid all the headache. Wink

I'm really glad you're enjoying the game. It has great qualities. If Obsidian had more time it would have been perfect as it is I consider FNV to be the true sequel to the original Fallout (unlike Fallout 3 which equals Oblivion with guns). But that's the problem with Obsidian, their games are always great but buggy because they lack time to polish them (just like KOTOR 2 which could have been excellent and becomes fully playable thanks to the restoration mod). FNV is still a pretty solid title and it's a shame it doesn't get more recognition but I guess most gamers nowadays don't have the sense to see how great it is and keep raving about Fallout 3 instead of seeing for what it is.

As for me FNV is the only sequel worthy of being associated with Fallout 1 and 2 and I have little expectations regarding Fallout 4 since Bethesda doesn't have what it takes to make a decent story driven game (Skyrim being in that respect a perfect example of another failure on their part).

Yeah, Dead Money is different. It requires a lot of patience and methodical observation of the surroundings. You may want to switch off hardcore mode during your time there. I know that DLC turns off a lot of people, but I really like it. The themes about obsession and letting go kind of applies to the rest of the game, and other DLCs, and the dialogue is excellent.

That's what I love about Obsidian. Their games have an over-arching artistic vision, so that even the DLC and expansions further advance the themes of the main game. While New Vegas feels like one coherent piece of art, Fallout 3 feels like an amusement park. A fun amusement park, to be sure, but nothing that will leave you thinking afterwards.

I really like your post Kana and I wholeheartedly agree. Dead Money has a really good backstory. You're making a very apt remark about Fallout 3. With Fallout 3 Bethesda tried very hard to make a game that had as many elements of the Fallout franchise as possible but the result is a hell of a mess that doesn't make much sense (Supermutants and FEV, the BoS, the Enclave, Harold, etc.) it all seems inarticulate and disjointed (and I'd better not get started on the "story" in Fallout 3).

Morrowind was a great game. Oblivion was not. It needed modding to make it a good game. Skyrim gave me hours of entertainment but also frustration. Mainly I just enjoyed exploring. The main quests were boring. There were few interesting c\NPCs and no outstanding protagonists.

I think the fact that I played Skyrim before playing Fallout New Vegas makes me appreciate FNV more. This the type of RPG I like. Choices are important. My actions can make a difference in the world. I am free to explore the world. The monsters are interesting and make sense. Sometimes I get bored with the landscape but then run across an area that is different and refreshing. Now that I am not being annoyed by that constant canteen pop-up the game is much more immersive.

Thanks for all the advice it really is fun to share what I am doing with you guys. Very Happy

I started a new character (chronic re-starter syndrome). Similar to the first one, good matured, scientific, intelligent.

Turned Prinim over to the NCR this time and now am a citizen of the NCR. I am in no rush to join the military though.

I found Hidden Valley but think I will wait on that quest for awhile. Went back to Prinim and talked some deserters into leaving town. The place is a ghost town now.

Right now I am doing as much exploring as possible. Picked up a sub machine, short barreled from someone.

Did you run into any bugs this time? Without mods it should be relatively stable.

Once the order is restored in Primm the people will leave the casino and wander the streets (business as usual).

Have you checked on Ed-E and Primm Slim? There is an unmarked quest relating to the Vicki and Vance gun that is missing from the exhibit.

Also being friendly with the NCR makes you a sympathizer and at most an NCR citizen, it doesn't turn your character into a grunt and it won't prevent you from being friendly with other factions.

I'm familiar with the syndrome (I've only completed the game with three characters so I still have on ending to unlock despite spending countless hours playing it) but the way I see it as long as you're enjoying the game it is not necessarily a bad thing. Wink

No bugs that I recognize as bugs. I did have a little gecko running around as if searching for his parents who did not react to my character or Sunny. I couldn't click on it and I saved and exited the game went back in and he was gone. He was cute. I want a gecko pet. Smile

The game is very stable. The only mod I question is the Sleep mod. I really need to do a search and see if there is a mod that just adds a bedroll of some kind. I really don't like those "see yourself sleep" mods. You don't actually see yourself sleep just get to see yourself get undressed. So???

I haven't tested this mod as I don't really care about bedrolls but it looks like something you would like: Portable Bedroll. Some people are complaining but I can't tell whether they have a point or not (judging by the description I'd say you have to be careful where you drop the bedroll).

There's also this mod you can use. It includes a campfire: Portable Campsite.

Like the one Carabas mentioned, you need to watch where you drop the items. I tried to camp on top of Helios One once, and the items fell through the floor. But it works pretty well on open ground.

Thanks, guys, I am trying out the one Kana recommended as it has a campfire. Gecko steaks are very tasty. Smile Although I am attracked to the one Car found because you have some choices. One file as a well rested when indoors that is appealing.

I will let you know what happens.

Novac is a game in itself. Love that quest. Some incidental fighting but mostly talk perfect for this character.
Come fly with me quest. Kept getting lost in that maze though. Now to explore Novac some more.

Just finished "Back in my Backyard" A sad quest, not hard to do I used two stealth packs but difficult psychologically at least for me. A cruel kindness.

Can't remember the term that is used. French of course. The strike of mercy. I had tears in my eyes when I finished it. Sad to do but it fit. It was right. Obsidian are geniuses. Too bad Bethesda chooses to cater to the mindless hordes. The bottom line is profit.

Coup de grĂ¢ce?

Wait until you uncover Boone's backstory. Or Raul's. The story has some dark chapters.

The beauty of it is that you don't have only one option. I love dilemmas in games it makes things so interesting especially if you're RPing a character who is humane and tries to do the "right" thing (sometimes there is no such thing and inaction can only make things worse).

My character is good mature,, slight frame, intelligent and scientific. She prefers to solve things with her mind if possible. She is no goody two shoes but she does want to do the right thing.

My characters are almost always chaotic good. Smile

Nothing wrong with that. I've always found it more difficult to play psychos in 3D first person games than in the old isometric games. Different perspective I guess.

I did an evil run of FNV and it was a bit disgusting... I prefer playing loners and strong willed individuals (the sort who want to be left alone but never seem to get a break).

Very Happy Type casting, Cara? I do think we put part of ourselves into our characters. Even when we play an evil character I think we are letting out some of the darker sides of ourselves.

I have been using the "portable campsite" mod and it works fine except the bed is a bit quirky. It has landed standing on its side and also upended. Still works but is a bit immersion breaking.

I can imagine this would make sleeping a bit tricky.

That's why I think it's good sometimes to vent your frustration on pixels instead of taking it out on real people.

I've started a new FNV character. No matter what I keep going back to this game. Wink

Someone gifted me with Dreamfall on GOG but I haven't even downloaded it yet. I did dl the music which is very good but not the game. FNV has me completely entranced. Now if I ccould only get past my chronic re-starter syndrome. Very Happy

I did install Giskard's NCR mod. I am curious as to what he did. He said he fixed the lip-sync. Eventually I will join the military and I want to become a ranger.

My character is not very good with firearms. She isn't very strong either. I took Hoarder as one of the perks. Got the mod that makes Sunny available as a companion and her along. With her dog, Chyenne. I am not working on getting components for EDE and also doing the quest to get Cass.

Hoarder works better for a strong character because you can keep junk around while being able to avoid the penalty.

Weapon stats aren't such a huge deal except for sniping, once you're getting used to shooting stats won't matter that much (except that increasing them will maje the game much easier).

I've tried the NCR mod, hated the absence of lip sync. It's a fairly well done mod but it doesn't bring much to the game (at least it didn't make it more enjoyable for me).

By the way, if you're good enough you can fix Ed-e without any component. Wink

Hi All

Finally got ED.E fixed. I now have him floating overhead, Sunny and Chyenne following at a distance. I am trying to do the quest Cass gives you but what I would really like is a male companion. I understand there is a sniper type available but I don't where or how to get him.

Since my character is brainy not brawny I could use some brawn. Sunny is a good shot. Cheyenne is good but a bit too aggressive even when set to not be.

I don't think I have had this much fun with a game since the BG games. The only thing I miss is the companion dialogue.

Smile I fixed EDE without the parts. As for hoarding I saw I don't get that much of a bonus but with EDE I can store all those odds and ends I pick up. One question can he be "killed"? If he can I am in trouble.

You're not supposed to have more than one human companion at a time so don't expect banter.

That being said companions will talk to you during their quests and they will comment on some actions (there are triggers for some lines depending on what your character is doing).

I'm glad you like the game. I've been playing it for a little over two years now and I'm still enjoying it (although these days I'm having more fun putting together outfits in the Geck).

My advice would be not to rush into things. Take your time, it's more rewarding this way. Wink

Smile I don't mind companion restrictions. Sometimes they get in the way. Sunny is behaving much better this game. I have her non-agressive and pushed back away from my character. Her dog is the problem. He behaves just like a dog protecting his master would and there is no way I can react fast enough to stop him. Sunny yells something when I toss dynamite the first time in a fight. Sometimes make a comment nothing that sticks in my mind though.

How do I get the stats on my companions?

You don't. Smile

Besides Sunny is a modded companion. I have played with her for a very little while (I don't like companions in games like this one) and she is ok but if you want more content look for Willow or Niner (two very popular NPC mods on the Nexus -I haven't played either).

Also depending on the difficulty you're playing NPCs can be set as non essential so when they die it's over for them (that's another reason why I have a hard time keeping them around).

As for Sunny's dog Cheyenne, the easy fix would be to get her killed (if she's not essential that is).
