PostSubject: Zarak's various Minecraft builds   Thu Sep 13, 2012 7:04 pm

Here if a first look at the new, gargantuesque-size project I have began recentely. Like I said, I have industrial, commercial, residential quarters planned. This is one of the smaller residential areas, with some luxury housings as well.

This project could take 1+ year. I could call on a friend of mine to do this build as a collaboration, but I prefer to solo this one, and stick to my vision.

Interesting. I'm curious to see what you have in mind for this project. Keep the pics coming.

Not a very big update since I was basically dragged by a friend of mine to play on some random stupid MC server yesterday which was basically a waste of my tie. But here are some fresher screenshots. I have built a park and a water tower, and the highway will lead to the Industrial/agricultural quarter, I haven't decided yet.

So basically you are turning Minecraft into Sim City? Wink

I was thinking more along the lines of Black & White and Dungeon Keeper, but there won't actually be any dwellers in this town. This is just a concept build to see if I can pull out a build of this magnitude.

I make a video... and I realize my lazy ass hasn't reinstalled Movie Maker.

That's an interesting idea, I loved Dungeon Keeper. Does the 1966 in the title mean anything special?

Since I have no video, here are some more screenshots. On those is the woodmill, and a greenhouse. There is also a glass factory, and there is to be a quarry and another building site I haven't quite decided on what to do with.

Other than being a codename? Subconsciously, I guess I have a '60s vibe in mind, but that just might be because of my texture pack.

A bit too dark to show much detail I am afraid. Daylight shots?

Here is another update. I have began the agricultural quarter, but it's WAAAY too early to show. Feast on those instead.

An aquarium. Not done yet!

Chemical plant. Named after the chemical company my grandfather worked for.

Different look at the aquarium.

Love the global picture, reminds me of how much I loved playing Simcity in the 90s. Wink

It is also a necessity to plan further builds, this project is starting to get a little hard to manage with a stupid, limited in-game map.

The agricultural area has seen some serious progress, and I am expanding the residential areas with apartment buildings. Too early to show them.

I am sticking a fork in this project.

My addiction to MC has grown to a ridiculously high degree, and I have decided to put it in the backburner to focus on some other projects, namely picking music back up since it is a much better pasttime than wasting it placing blocks.

Expect no more updates on any of my MC projects.

I can't imagine how much time something like this can consume so kudos for taking a step back and not giving in to the MC addiction (as you put it).

I showed the project to my friends and fellow bandmates, and they were literally slack-jawed at just how awesome this build was. I wanted to put it in the backburner and forget about it, but they talked me into picking it back up.

Here is an updated screenshot. I haven't done much except finish the foundations for all the other luxury apartment buildings, and slightly began the commercial district.

I WILL continue this project, but at a much slower pace. Music has reclaimed it's place in my life, and I have found an healthy balance between MC and music.

I am glad to hear that. Balance in life is important. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish. If you make any recordings of your music perhaps you will share that with us.

We only do covers as of now, and pretty bad ones at that. We need to get exponentially better before we consider recording anything, and we haven't found our own sound and identity yet. I enjoy Stoner metal like Electric Wizard, Bongzilla, as well as Industrial like Sielwolf, Terminus and Skinny Puppy. Our guitarist is more of a progressive kind of guy who likes bands like King Crimson, Rush, Yes. Our second guitarist is a metalhead, who especially enjoys Megadeth, Machine Head, Anthrax, etc. It seems we musically play off of each other, because often he will start a riff and I will join in and vice versa. And last but not least, our drummer is a punk purist. So kind of an oddball mix. I have no idea how to refine something from this various bunch of styles, but we will see.

But back to this project... I have posted a lot of global shots, but not so much of the actual buildings themselves.

The three-forked road from the Residential district to the Market district. Complete with Redstone lamp lighting that can be turned off!

One of the apartment complexes in the upper key residential area. This one is made of logs. Why? It looks rustic and awesome.

Another apartment complex made out of Sandstone. Gives an exotic, desertic touch.

I don't believe I need to elaborate on this one.

The Shack, this is a restaurant that is a tribute to a real restaurant who makes some seriously awesome poutine. Home made fries, tons of cheese and a peppery sauce, so damn good. Also made out of logs because the place that inspired me is made out of round wood and logs.

One of the earliest apartment complexes I build. Located within the middle key residential area, and has a kickass pool on top. Because I can.

And now, some shots with my new MM6 inspired TP!

The Shack

Brick apartment complex

Stone bricks/glowstone

Emerald blocks

Gold ore

Diamond block/ore

As it is relevant to this build, I will post updates to my TP in this thread.

I played MM7 through, looking for more textures. I couldn't find any. And my original MM6 pack sucked. So I decided to blend the two and make a MM TP, with some of the textures from MM6, and some from MM7. I totally redid the terrain.png with my own textures.

Left to right, row 1: Stone, dirt, cobblestone, oak planks, spruce planks, birch planks, emerald ore, glowstone (inverted the colors -- Dark Glowstone), Nether brick.
Row 2: Chiseled sandstone, smooth sandstone, sand, bedrock, jungle wood planks, redstone ore, oak leaves.
Row 3: Sandstone, oak wood, spruce wood, birch wood, lapis lazuli, Spruce leaves, End stone.
Row 4: Iron Ore, Gold Ore, Jungle Wood, Cracked stone bricks, birch leaves.
Row 5: Coal Ore, Lapis Lazuli ore, Mossy stone bricks, Jungle leaves.
Row 6: Diamond ore, cobblestone (shouldn't be there -- sorry), Obsidian.
Row 7: Chiseled stone bricks, Soul sand
Top: Netherrack.

Quite a variety of building materials.

I saw on another forum a video of some young boys smashing up peoples buildings. People can get into your work and modify or destroy it? That seems strange. Do you have any protection?

Nakia, if he's a server admin (not sure, haven't been keeping up with this, sorry Skorp), there are all sorts of different plugins he can get for his server to protect his buildings.
