New guy signing in... OK, in all honesty being dragged in by Nakia!
My name is Daniel, I'm married (19 yrs so far), in my mid-40s and live in Edinburgh in the UK.
I have been asked to sign up here by Nakia since I am honoured to be one of the "Legion of the Banned" as she calls the folks who have fallen out of favour on a certain other forum. Nuff said about that.
I have been playing computer games since the BBC Micro days, moved to an Amiga, through various incarnations of PC... always buying a machine *just* before something better, shinier or cheaper was released (I bought one of the last 486SX processors before the 486DX were announced). I moved into the Mac family in 2007 with my first iMac (bought two weeks before the next model was released) and am currently using a 2010 Mac Pro for which I have also bought a licenced copy of Windows 7.
Game-wise I adore single-player RPGs such as the Baldur's Gate series and Planescape: Torment. I cut my teeth on Wizardry : Bane of the Cosmic Forge. I got into MMOs with the original Everquest (done my time as a Guide there), moved to Everquest2 and then dabbled with World of Warcraft. I am currently playing Eve Online albeit somewhat sparingly since Skyrim has knocked out quite a large chunk of my time (heading for 370 hours so far).
My game modding experience is limited to UI overhauls. If you have ever played EQMac (the classic Everquest game ported for Mac users) then you may have seen my PowerOfTwo UI which was a total overhaul and efficiency drive for that game. In WoW I helped the author of ArkiveUI manage his compilations and designed some skins for that UI.
I am an incessant dabbler in Photoshop for forum sigs and banners for projects. Nakia will have seen my pictures for The Cogno Project (WoW-related character Scrapbook) and providing folks here don't mind I will be submitting those again for people to see and enjoy. I have a decent chunk of about ten lengthy fanfic stories of my WoW and EQ2 characters which I also hope to show you although I am not currently writing. Apologies for Nakia and friends who have already seen them.
I am (or rather was - now jobless) a Novice Voice Actor for Skyrim. My voice is in two characters of the Telvanni Hall mod and also as a travelling Warrior Monk called Glostheim by an independent modder but I am not sure if that mod is released yet.
I have a good condenser mic and own a licenced copy of Reaper for sound editing. If any of you have experience of game groups currently asking for new VAs, please let me know. I am investigating the TES Alliance Voice Acting Project but am not sure how active they are these days since they are (or were) an Oblivion group.
Anyway... enough waffle - glad to be here and enjoying the peace and quiet.
Daniel.

Hi Daniel, We do have peace and quiet here. Sometimes a little too much. You may have noticed that there are no Adminstrators or moderators listed. Carabas is the site founder and lets us know if something can be done technique wise or not.
Take a look around and enjoy yourself. I will let the others introduce themselves as they wander through. Dragoniguana is on vacation so it will be a while before he turns up.
This is sakura our forum mascot. She likes tuna.

Thanks for the invite, Nakia.
I did have some technical questions about the forum but I have managed to answer some by reading. Stuff like "alternative colour theme - no" and "fixed width 1024px - get used to it".
I will put my forum sigs back on shortly once I have checked their width against the default layout.

We have no strict rule about size but do like to keep them to roughly what the size of my sig is. I think yours will fit fine.

Welcome to the saloon Daniel.
Any friend of Nakia is a friend of mine.
I hope you'll feel right at home here. There is no authority figure overshadowing us here so you don't have to worry about being on your toes.
You will soon find out that some of us here can have strong opinions but we're always open to a spirited (and friendly) exchange.
Janitors are the people you can get in touch with for technical stuff and moderation (if need be). If you have ideas for the forum, banners or anything feel free to send me a PM.
Our senior VA and artist is no longer active so as far as VA is concerned the go to person is Nakia.
Last but not least I see you're located in Edinburgh, I just love this city. I spent a year in Fife (ten years ago). Scotland is such a nice place and the people are so friendly. I had the time of my life.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the chat box. We don't use it very often but it works fine and it's a great way to have a friendly chat.

There - my forum sigs are displaying properly.
Because this forum recognises .php as a valid image extension, I can use my sig rotation script. There are currently six possible sigs in the rotation that you will see displayed randomly. All the script does is count the sigs in my directory, roll a dice and display the n'th sig.
The sigs are small - all between 22Kb to 30Kb in size - compressed jpegs - so should not be onerous for folks with mobile devices.

Good, now we have to get you called something besides visitor. Titles don't mean much here. We get no points for the number of posts. We get get no points for everything. We really mean it when we say we are renegades.
I have no idea just what Carabas is doing about titles so I will leave that up to him. You can discuss it with him.

Titles are supposed to end in "or" so we can maintain a rhyming pattern with existing titles.
Janitor is already taken by the staff.

Actor, victor, grantor, captor, raptor, languor, neighbor, senator, major. There must be many more but that is what I can think of right now.

How about Conjuror (variant spelling of Conjurer)?
Or Lictor - roman, one who bodyguards an official.
Despite Poilane being heavily into Illusion magic, sadly Illusor is not one that I want... An Illusor is a Scoffer or Mocker.

Conjuror sounds good to me. Something Conjuror or just plain conjuror?
Thanks for the video, Cara, I just spent a half hour watching various videos. Politically Incorrect was a lot of fun.

Just plain Conjuror - nice and short.
I find that in Skyrim, I use Illusion when I can control the fight, Conjuration if I am expecting something nasty to happen (or as a followup to a successful Fury) and only fall back on Destruction when it all goes horribly wrong... although I do love Fire Rune landmines on goats, foxes, rabbits, mud crabs... oh, and deer and elk too.

Hiya! I'm Rach (but most people have called me Silvery for so long, I respond to either). It's nice to have someone else from the UK here

Thanks for the welcome, Silvery...
I hope you like reading FanFic stories because I am about to place a pile of them on the forum. Nakia (and possibly one or two others) have had an advance preview but I will be placing them here on the Saloon for our folks to enjoy.

Hi Sil, how are the kids?
Daniel is a very good writer and his bit of art adds to the stories. I hope y'all enjoy them. I did and look forward to some new ones.

It's done (hopefully the elves got this right).
Please go easy on the spellcasting, we already have a major squid problem in the Minecraft area.

Thank you - that is perfect.
Nakia - that reminds me - I no longer have any images (or the save file) of my Hanging Gardens of Babylon from when I played Minecraft. For those of you who still play it, imagine a 120x89 rectangular area with a four-story Ziggurat heavily covered in vines and trees with a glorious fountain inside.
This was the inspiration for my build...
Spoiler:
*image directly linked since I can't post external links on the forum yet. Go to the Minecraftforum.net and search for "Hanging Garden Babylon" and look for the thread started by Silfren on 20 Sept 2011 titled "Not just another Hanging Garden..." to see the original. Silfren kindly gave me consent to make my version.

Oops, that was a larger pic than I realised, sorry.
The shot above is not of MY hanging gardens but rather is of the original by Silfren. Mine was made in Smooth Stone with accents in Smooth Slab and Half Slabs.
Just when I had finished it, they changed the biome water colours and my beautiful blue fountain suddenly turned piss-green.

I took the liberty of adding a spoiler tag for the picture (it's more convenient if you don't want to resize it).
This ziggurat is very impressive! Top notch work.

Silfren got a lot of well-justified Faves for that one. I don't have pictures of mine any more but I copied his physical design but changed the materials and as I said, added block accents where he used solid stones all over.
I believe it is still on the server somewhere but in their Old Map area since the game changed too much too fast and I dropped out.
