This is a work in progress and in fact I seem to have lost the last copy Sue sent me so don't expect too much.
Voice Acting Tutorial for Absolute Beginners
So you think you would like to do some voice acting for mods and other projects. Well, you have come to the right place. You can get a lot of help here. Friendly help, we had a lot help and are happy to share what we have learned. This tutorial is written for those who know nothing about how to go about it.
All you need to voice act is a voice, a computer, a microphone and a sound editor.
Voice
Any type of voice will do. You have an accent you say. We all have accents. We love accents here. Good, creative modders love accents. You will need to be able to pronounce the lines clearly and according to what the author of the mod or project wants.
What? Did I hear you say that you hate the sound of your own voice> Don’t worry a lot of people do when they first start out. You will get used to it and maybe even come to like it.
Computer
Obviously you have one or access to one or you would not be reading this.
Microphone
This tutorial will not go into specifics about microphones. If you need help with getting aa microphone start a thread here and we will get help.
Sound Editor
There are many sound editors available. Most of us use either Audacity, a free sound editor, Goldwave, costs around $50 USD or 31 + UK or Reaper which is $60 USD.
You have made a recording and wish to send it in to be critiqued. Have you read the Voice Acting Tutorial? Even if you have don’t be surprised if you did a few things wrong. Here we will cover some of the things our Experts take for granted.
Unless told otherwise your recording should be Mono, that’s one track, 44100 HZ, that’s project rate, 16 bits and in either wave or MP3 format. Further on we will get into some tips for recording but right now back to a few overlooked things.
Having made the recording you need to get it to us so we can not only hear it but download it. Normally the lines are zipped up so you will need some zipper software. 7Zip is popular but there are others. Put the wave or MP3 file the zip package. This is very important.
You will need a file sharing program. Many of us use MediaFire or Box, It is rather important that he modder be able to access the recordings and download them so make sure the program files can be downloaded by anyone and not just members of the file sharing program.
