I am hearing disturbing things about the DLC. I have no source for them so can't verify what is said. It seems to be more a word of mouth or type. Not only is the DLC buggy which I assume Bethesda will fix but the game play may not be to peoples liking. Seems vampires will follow you when you fast travel and then kill off named NPCs in the area you go to. Even sneak into peoples houses and kill them. The over all area of the DLC is reported to be empty.

I stress that I am unable to verify the above reports.

Remember good ol' Jiub, first NPC you meet in Morrowind? Yeah, you get to meet his ghost in Dawnguard. Very Happy

Really? Bethesda does have a knack for doing things like that. If only they can fix the bugs.

The more I hear about Dawnguard the less I want it. My feeling about TES games is that they are being stripped down to bland games with no real challenge, no tension, no excitement. I guess this is for console players. The attitude seems to be "Don't bother me with demands, don't force me to do anything. All I want to do is kill, kill, kill. No puzzles, nothing that makes me think."

Am I over reacting?

There is a mod up on Steam called "TEG Wizards of Winterhold" I haven't played the latest version. It does add NPCs and areas to the College. Since I cannot discussed it with anyone I just can't get interested in it either. My impression which may be wrong is you do some more exploring, get some extra spells and kill, kill, kill.

So far the only quest mod I have is Indoral's Folly. Not sure that is spelled correctly. It is up on Steam. I am a bit biased as I voice the Nixie. Very Happy It is fun though and you get a talking sword. The sword is more fun than the stupid companions Beth gave you. To solve the puzzle you pick up three journals that you have to read. So how many people will want to do this quest since no one wants to HAVE to do something.

Sorry, I am not in a good mood and seeing everything through dark glasses.

Actually I bought Dawnguard the other day and despite reading all the negative comments on the net I have to say I really enjoyed it. All the mods I'm currently using work fine and quite of few of them are "Dawnguard required" ones anyway.

Good things: Great companion with an interesting backstory and decent voice acting. Crossbows (love crossbows Smile ) DG Makes vampires and werewolves better than the vanilla game (still not great but definately improved). Great environments, Forgotten Vale is incredible to see, some of the caves and dungeons are very artistically done. Good amount of developed lore concerning the Falmer. Some nice new armour.

Bad things: Questline is almost identical regardless of which of the two factions you choose. Ending is something of an anticlimax (kind of the feeling the player got at the end of the civil war questline). Spawning vampire attacks at night in cities can end up killing NPC's. (Solved this with the When Vampires Attack mod, which makes civillians run indoors).
Vampire Lord form is annoying since you can't interact with loot and sometimes you have to revert to human form to fit through certain passageways. Very linear questline with a complete lack of choice (typical Bethesda state of affairs Wink ) Way too many Elder Scrolls, a TES game should never have more than one, with DG it seems like everyone seems to have one. Laughing

In all honesty theres nothing really bad about DG and I think its worthwhile if you want more Skyrim related stuff. I certainly thought it was worth the price.
