I've watched two movies that I found truly amazing:

The Beaver directed by Jodie Foster and starring Mel Gibson, a great tale of a man coping with depression. I don't want to get into an argument about Mel Gibson I just want to point out that his performance is absolutely amazing and probably one the finest examples of acting I've seen in years.

Silver Linings Playbook starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. I love this movie. The cast is great (including Robert De Niro perfect in a supporting role) and it is a very moving film. Bradley Cooper really conveys a sense of truth that is absolutely endearing but I'm truly amazed at Jennifer Lawrence's performance. This is a young lady who will go far. I liked her a lot in Winter's Bone and X-Men but she really shone in this one. The most amazing thing is that she is only 22! It's rather uncommon to see such a gorgeous young lady act so well.

The only problem is that I'll have to watch the Hunger Games now just to see how good she is in that movie (which doesn't interest me that much to be honest but I guess it's not too late to change my mind).

I saw Django Unchained last week. I've always been interested in Spaghetti westerns because of the influence they drew from Japanese chambara films. Django Unchained threw Blaxploitation films into the mix, making a really unique cultural melange. The performances were really excellent, as well. It's quite bloody, so it's not for everyone, but I enjoyed it a lot more than Tarantino's last couple films.

I saw Django Unchained and I have to agree with you. Stellar performances don't hurt and it's the best QT has made since Jackie Brown. I don't really care much for his recent films (Inglourious Basterds was fine and IMO it's Christoph Waltz's performance that made it good). I loved the cameo by Franco Nero (the original Django in the Sergio Corbucci movie). What I loved about Django Unchained is that it never feels too long (something that I can't say about The Hobbit or the last Batman movie). Whatever we may say about QT to his credit we have to recognize that he is not afraid of taking the time to properly tell his story and develop his characters. The pacing in Django Unchained is excellent and QT knows how to build up tension (and expectations) before letting the action begin. Anyone who has seen this film will know what I'm talking about.

I've just watched Limitless another movie with Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. It's fast paced and definitely a great thriller. Abbie Cornish was great, she's another very gifted actress. Lots of twists and turns and if some parts may feel a bit contrived it's a movie that doesn't fail to keep you on your toes. I've enjoyed it a lot.

Speaking of Abbie Cornish, I saw Seven Psychopaths and it's definitely worth checking out. The entire cast is great and it's a very enjoyable film (if at times violent) which is not entirely surprising considering that the director/writer Martin McDonagh is also responsible for In Bruges IMO one of the best movies made in the last decade. Seven Psychopaths is different but you can tell it was made by the same person.

I've seen Lockout, it's pretty much an unofficial remake of John Carpenter's Escape from NY and Escape from LA (cult movies) and I can't say I was much impressed by that fact. Lockout only stands out thanks to the performance of Guy Pearce (and Maggie Grace, Lennie James and Peter Stormare who do a fine job in supporting roles). It's over the top and sometimes it gets a bit cheesy and rather unbelievable but it's fun. Guy Pearce gets all the good lines and makes the most of them. The chemistry between the two leads really helps the movie and it never gets too corny. It's certainly not a masterpiece but it's decent entertainment.

Going to watch Sinister this weekend... and I'll probably lose 48hours of good sleep.

But the last movie I've watched was The Hobbit. And thank Odin it came out brilliant. (I'm an avid Tolkien fan, so I knew what I was going to get.)

I saw Sinister at FrightFest last August. It's pretty creepy and has some good shock moments.

Enjoy!

Speaking of horror there is a great source of information about horror flicks. I learned a lot about horror movie genre from James Rolfe. He created some YouTube Shows the most popular is AVGN(angry video game nerd), but also he is a huge fan of horror movies. He knows a lot about them and being a movie maker himself he gives away a lot of facts that normal people wouldn't know. He also reviewed lot's of movies I never new even existed, so if you like horror it is definitely a thing worth checking out.

The order of watching all these is a bit weird as the first one in the respective category will be at the bottom(and not the one which pops out when you open a link) and from right to left. So the first one in History of horror will be 1) "Monster Madness Promo" 2) Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, 3) Nosferatu 4)Phantom of the Opera and etc. enjoy Smile

2008 GodzillaThon

2009 Monster Madness Three

2010 Camp Cult

I haven't posted in this thread for quite some time. I've watched the 2009 Star Trek movie yesterday and alhough it was enjoyable I felt it was a bit predictable and IMO the ending wasn't as good as the rest of the movie. I'm not a Star Trek expert at all so that's just my opinion as someone who has only watched some episodes over the years (we didn't get this show on French TV for quite some time and I mostly watched it when I was living abroad).

I saw Devil's Rejects Friday. It was a Friday the 13th so we wanted to watch a horror movie to celebrate. All in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The script was horrible, having the same laziness that we can frequently (always?) see in Hollywood movies. But I really like the directing from Rob Zombie. He masterfully used the '70 B movie visual and musical language as well as having beautiful shots.

I went to a friend's place and he had the Kieslowski's Three colors trilogy that another friend had lent him. We ended up watching Blanc, starring Julie Delpy. I actually have all three films at home and I have seen all of them a few times, but watching Blanc reminded me how great that movie is. Zbigniew Zamachowski is incredible in the lead role. He matches the distraught, confused and slightly pathetic aspect of the character perfectly.

Last summer, I watched Kieslowski's decalogue and was suprised to find that, in the last film, Jerzy Stuhr plays Zbigniew Zamachowski's brother, just like in Blanc.
