This game was developed by Tilted Mills and Sega now has the publishing rights. It is my favorite society builder game. The Grand campaign takes you from the founding of the Egyptian empire forward. It is not a perfect game as the combat sucks and the storage could be improved but I enjoy building the cities, trying to keep everyone happy in order to win the scenario. It is an older game, 2004.

One thing I like is that although the Egyptians had multiple gods the gods themselves are not important but satisfying the people religious needs can be very challenging.

There is an editor and you can make individual scenarios or campaigns of your own. It does require scripting. Getting the Nile to work properly can be a challenge. The game also allows you some choice in language, English, French, Dutch (German) and Spanish I remember. I think there is another one but don't remember it. Not very much voice acting and the font is small. I am experimenting with that. A high resolution helps but lessens the graphic quality. I need to do some research to see if I can find a hand held magnifier that is a little bit stronger than the one I have.

When I collect some screen shots to show the progression of the city I will post them.

I only ever tried the demo.

That was because I loved Pharoah, and I thought this would be a sorta follow up. But, to be honest, I thought it was a poor clone of the classic Pharoah game.

Pharoah was a great game. Did you have the Cleopatra extension? I loved that. No IC:CotN is no where in the class of Pharoah. Some of the same people who worked on those games did CotN. They started Tilted Mills and I don't think at the resources or people to to do a bang up job. Also they had to be different because of copyright laws.

I like it because I can play around with it, do retexturing and the editor is pretty good. It is too bad they sold out to SEGA but I guess they wanted food on the table. CotN is a slow game, one to be played as a break from other games. You need to balance things or you have a revolution on your hands. Some of the scenarios made by players are good. In a way CotN is a stratergy game. A poltical game.

I had one game that I purposely wrecked just to see what would happen. Laughing vagrants all over the place. The nobles and elite all left town. With a little more effort it could have been a really good game but even so it is now my favorite just to return to from time to time.

This is the same map as before but I moved the Palace to the top of the hill and the farm houses for the wealtrhier farms have been retextured.

I wish i could get the image a little smaller.

Most people who play this game try and make the most beautiful city they can but there are a few of us who try and make it the most efficient city. Beauty is nice but efficent is a necessity.

Ic:CotN

I have uploaded a few pictures to Photobucket. These have re-texturing which I keep changing hoping to find something I am really happy with or maybe just because I like to tinker.

Sounds interesting. So this is like Sim City in Ancient Egypt or is it more like Age of Empires? I haven't played many games like that except civilization.

For the pictures you can either resize them before uploading them, post them as links or simply use spoiler tags so we can open then to watch them and then close them. Wink

It seems more like a standard 'sim' city builder Cara

To be honest, it seems like they used Pharoah as a template - its very similar in many ways

The people who did CotN worked on the Pharoah/Ceasar series. It is rather simplistic and really could use an upgrade. I haven't checked Tilted Mills to see if anyone has done any modding. I like playing with the texturing. Paint.net fits my current situation beautifully it is so easy to work with I can play with different effects and really have fun messing things up.

Don't know what I did wrong the above link worked fine when I did previw.

For me CotN is more a strategy game. Balancing the needs of the people. Combat is so bad it isn't even funny. Storage of anything but food is non existent.

If you want to cheat you can but the cheats are buggy. There are no Easter Eggs like pharoah had. No dancing hippos in pink tutus. Very Happy A great game to give you seven year old or maybe even better your elderly relatives. Immortal Cities; Children of the Nile 237693 Immortal Cities; Children of the Nile 47717

Roads are not needed in CotN but are helpful for city planning, making sure doors are not blocked and getting people to cross mountains. People do not cross even small hills if there are no roads going over them. They walk around no matter the distance so placing a road gets to where ever they need to go a lot faster.

People are a little smarter in CotN than they were in Pharaoh.

Pharaoh is a great game. See if you can get the expansion Cleopatra which is fantastic. I loved it and the tombs.

Children of the Niles is fun and you can do retexturing of the buildings and clothes. Retextexturing of the plants is very trick and my eye sight makes it even trickier. I Will try and get some photos of the retexturing uploaded.

Roads are not needed in CotN but are helpful for planning and making sure no doors are blocked and for getting the people to go over hills and mountains instead of around them. The map editor is good and easy to use except for setting up the flood plains. You need to do a lot of saves so you can revert when you make a mistake. The editor is hard for me because I am so poor at scripting. I copy a script and then edit it to what I want.

I bought Cesar IV and was not that thrilled with it. My favorite is CIII

I played CIV II & III but haven't played the others.

Remember that combat sucks badly and storage except for food is just about non-existent. I liked the voice acting what there was of it. CotN I think is more of a strategy game where you have to meet the needs of the people or they rebelled and kick you out. The nobles are very demanding and if they leave you lose their farms. Big trouble.

Food is the basis of the economy. There is no coinage. Somehow I don't think this game is the type you would like except for the retexturing. Except for the retexturing I don't this game is your type. The retexturing is the main reason I keep playing myself.

tCotN

That should be the link to my CotN album on photobucket. I have done more retexturing but have not uploaded the pictures yet.

Success I think. Still larger than I want but I do believe I got the right code link this time. This is a picture of the Cult Temple of Ra. In front of it is a row of shines you can just see the tops. I added the red color to the temples and shrines.
