Skyrim Gameplay and Strategy

Hokay, I have started a new game. Still using the female, Khajiit rogue character but going to try and cover one area before moving on to another. Concentrate on getting stealth and thievery skills up, little majic. Restoration, destruction and a bit of enchantment.

Will role play her.

If I may post some advice I'd say the most important thing is not to go out of your way to level faster or make your character more efficient.

I've found after playing four different characters up to level 26 to 36 that nothing ruins the fun more than a character that becomes too good at something too early in the game (at which point I usually lose interest and start over).

My advice would be to take your time and level up as naturally as possible.

If you force your way you will either make the game much too easy or a little harder (depending on which skills get an increase early on).

Khajits can use claws for some real damage early on and that won't level up so it allows you to focus on other skills (especially if you want to make an archer).

I haven't played much with magic but restoration is useful. The Avoid Death perk is a bit useless however since you can heal fast enough without it. I gave it a try and thought it would save me some micromanagement but all things duly considered it's probably not worth the investment.

The great thing about this game is that it seems really hard to mess up a character build so that it becomes unplayable or can't be improved on afterwards.

Cara, your advice is always welcome. I don't like uber characters either. I am role playing this character as rather neutral, not really good or bad. Self centered, out for what she can get, indifferent to what the Imperials and Stormcloaks are doing unless it affects her directly or adversly. She thinks this whole dragonborn thing is a joke. Until she gets attacked by two dragons at the same time. That is no joke.

I am in no rush to do anything. This is the most relaxed game I have ever played.

Cara, I am so glad you reminded about the Khajiit claws. That is one scarey creature. At least at low levels those claws are much, much better than fighting with swords. Wow, wow, wow!

Khajit claws are good enough and better than swords until you get to the good stuff.

The great thing for such an archer is that you won't level up because of one handed attacks so you can focus on archery without bothering with levelling up too fast or spreading your fighting skills around (comparatively a character that focuses on one set of fighting skills is more efficient).

I totally agree with you, being relaxed and taking the game as naturally as possible is probably the most enjoyable way to appreciate it. That's a luxury that Skyrim affords.

My character is level 4 and I am taking my time. Will do side quests, miscellaneous objective and explore. Clean out forts and work on being sneaky. Need to try some pickpocketing.

It's really easy to get carried away with that whole levelling thing.

Pickpocketing is hard to level up if you don't cheat (save and reload). It's one of those skills that I think need to be trained until they get to a decent level then it becomes pretty safe to use (especially when wearing magic items with deft hands enchantment).

Leveling seems to have slowed down a bit. I haven't done much alchemy which is what I think pushed up my levels. Right now it is mostly exploring and fighting. I am using archery a lot and that doesn't seem to level as fast as alchemy. Not many locked chests so far so that isn't increasing. Did do some training in one-handed weaponry. I also have Lydia as a companion so she gets some of the kills so that helps keep the level down.

Fighting with claws will slow down levelling as well. Seems like you're having a great time Nakia!

Yes but I picked up Lydia as a companion and we were doing quite well until we came to a tower with an open door way. Were attacked yb two bandits, my character dispatched one but Lydia was fighting with the other in the tower. She was planted smack dab in the door way and getting whipped. I tried to get to the bandit but he killed me. Of course did Ihave a recent save? No.

Sometimes companions can be a liability. Especially when they stand in the way of your sword or manage to get on the path of your arrows.

When I take followers I tend to use them for ranged support. Give them a bow and forget about other weapons. Sometimes they switch back to melee but as long as they are away from the fray they tend to last longer and to be more useful.

Lydia is a bit bland but she is ok. Well as long as I don't trade items with her. The "I'm sworn to carry your burden" line is getting on my nerves.

Sakura liked too but wants to know where her tuna is.

The power of the Khajiit clasws amazes me. Takes out a worlf or skelteton in one blow. You have to get up close but even humans fall like nine pins if you can get to them. Good for taking mages or necromancers.

Thanks, Cara, for reminding me about them. I am up to level six now but that is only because of alchemey and archery and sneak. None of this fast track to level twenty stuff.

Hokay, I am really laughing. I read some where that Khajiit couldn't marry. There were no khajiit to marry. Well that may be true but my character is engaged. Met a smth at Shor's Stone, I think that is right. Named Flinjor (?) / Not maybe the best looking catch of the season but a good worker, talented, has a mine connected to his smithy. Ebony. not a young man but not oldeither. Now I have a place to settle down in my old age. Bethesda is either crazy or has a great sense of humour.

Nice looking orc by the way. As far as armours and weapons are concerned I like the look of some of the vanilla low level gear like the Banded Iron Armour.

I did a retex of the Dwarven Armour and it looks pretty good on warrior types.

I should have downloaded the detailed faces mod you recommended. I couldn't really get the look I wanted. The scars and war paint just do not show up.

For some reason my PC is freezing up when I try to access your armour. I get the wolf armour. No it isn't what I want. For some reason it reminds me of Superman.

i am having a lot of fun with this warrior. He has Lydia as a companion. They are getting along well so far. She even called him, my friend.= , She didn't do that with the Khajiit.

I think the Wolf Armour retex is still believable. There are some retex that look really modern and plastic but there is no arguing about taste.

Does that face retexturing mod work after you have started your character or only when you make the character?

You should leave the textures in place. When it comes to textures they are not applied when you take them away from the data folder.

When they say drop in the Skyrim folder do they mean where the launcher exe is or the data folder?
