| First off, I am a Trekkie. I enjoyed the show and the movies. I was uncertain about this one, but after hearing some good feedback, I went to the theater 15 minutes from where I live and gave this movie a shot.
I am not disappointed.
Except for the "real-life" stuff like bars and drinking which I honestly think have no place in anything with Star Trek on it, the movie was genuinely pretty damn good!
I saw it in 3D, and while I am generally not much for 3D movies, it made for an even better viewing experience, IMO.
If you enjoy Star Trek, check out the trailer and see for yourself. I, for one, enjoyed this movie. |

| I saw it. I did not see it in 3D and probably wouldn't want to. If i want to watch something in 3d i can probably do it on my dad's 3D TV. edit: ultimately, i thought it was good. My only complaint was largely about how loud the movie theater was. |

| I'm terrible at describing my thoughts on movies. |

| I'm thinking of seeing this film and would love to know what you enjoyed and what you disliked. Tell you what, I'll ask some questions and you do your best to answer.... What did you enjoy? What did you dislike, or think was poor? Were the special effects good? Was the villain really nasty, or a bit wet? The trailer in our cinema looks pretty spectacular - did the film live up to the hype? If so, how? I hope this helps you to give me a bit of info |

| I don't know about hype, i watched it without paying attention to trailers or anything. I didn't really have any idea what to expect. |

- What did you enjoy?
Kind of hard to answer that one without spoiling anything... but a nod to the past. The actors' performance was SOLID, too, ALL of them were believable and truly nailed their characters. - Quote :

The "off duty" part like the bar/drinking scenes. Again, this has NO place in a Star Trek film! - Quote :
- Were the special effects good?
Short answer -- yes. The Enterprise never looked this good. The warp effects were pretty damn good, especially in 3D, and both the Enterprise and Starfleet looked very damn good too. It definitively was a treat to see the Star Trek universe in such a gorgeous way. - Quote :
- Was the villain really nasty, or a bit wet?
It is SO hard to answer that without spoiling! I will say this, though -- by deduction I was able to figure out who the villain was so the reveal wasn't that much of a surprise for me, but it was enjoyable nontheless. - Quote :

Yes. I was skeptical at first, usually everything Hollywood pumps out nowadays is just a stinking pile of crap. This was a good surprise, though, leaving out the "real life stuff" out like the stupid bar/drinking/off-duty scenes which I repeat have NO PLACE IN A STAR TREK FILM. Bottom line, I wasn't disappointed. It definitively was a treat to see a modern day version of Star Trek. |

| If you can see it in 3D, all the better, Sue. Let us know what you thought of the movie. |

| I got to see Star Trek Into Darkness this evening and agree with most of what you say Skorp - especially re. the bar scenes. The movie loses nothing if they're chopped (along with the gratuitous 'change' scene) and the conversation is relocated. It is a good action movie, well worth a watch but...... I did find it a bit predictable. What I really liked were the performances. They paid true homage to the characters I remember from when the series first appeared on tv, especially Bones - brilliantly executed. |

| Do you have to watch the other new Star Trek movie first? I'm asking because I don't know much about Star Trek. For years we didn't get to see the show in France. I remember watching some episodes of the New Generation when I was in the Middle East and Enterprise when I was in Scotland. It looks like Benedict Cumberbatch is having a blast as the archvillain in this movie. |

| You'll be fine Cara - this is the only Star Trek movie I've watched and I had no problem. My scant knowledge comes from the late 60's early 70s. Oh dear..... Skorp and Lndf will be horrified at what I've just said..... |

| One other thing that disappointed me: - Spoiler:
The Klingon basically make nothing more than a cameo appearance, and the Romulans were nowhere to be found either.
The drinking/bar scenes as well as the change scene were totally superfluous. I guess it was Hollywood's way of making the movie "more accessible". I rolled my eyes at those scenes, they didn't belong AT ALL. I agree, the movie was a tidbit predictible. But, despite that, it was enjoyable nontheless. Did you figured out by deduction who the villain of the movie was going to be? I enjoyed this little nod to the past. |

| I mis-heard his name the first time so no i didn't figure it out a head of time. If i had heard the name, well i probably would have figured it out. - Spoiler:
Were there supposed to be romulans in it? But Yes i agree that the Klingons weren't really all that important. They were described as the admiral's reasoning but they could just as easily have been replaced with something else.

| - Spoiler:
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Kahn as a villain, but he represents only a fraction of the Star Trek universe. The Klingon appeared for three seconds, get killed and are never seen again. The Enterprise went on their planet, hostile territory, and killed a patrol... with no revenge whatsoever? I can buy the fact that they went into an unhabited part of the planet to a degree, but this goes aginst the Klingon nature, IMO. Wouldn't it have been nice to have a surprise Klingon attack while the Enterprise is stuck in space and cannot escape because of the damaged distortion core?
I don't think there were supposed to be Romulans in it, but Spock is so damn believable in his role I would have loved to see some Romulan antagonists show up. A multi-front war would have made things less predictible, IMO.
