So, after getting a functional copy thanks to GoG, I finally gave the old Fallout games a proper crack.

They are a million miles away from the Bethesda garbage "Fallout" games. A true dialogue system which shames "Fallout 3" and ESPECIALLY "Fallout 4", plots that make actual bloody sense and are genuinely awesome, unlike Bethesda garbage.

It further infuriates me that Van Buren was never released. And that we will never see another TRUE Fallout game. As far as I am concerned all the "Fallout" games with the Bethesda logo on it are a bastard red-headed stepchild.

F1's "good" ending pissed me off so bad I went back, reloaded an old save and sided with the Master. It was worth becoming a Super Mutant to massacre those Vault assholes. Then I went with the non-canon ending and shot that old piece of shit. Saving their miserable hides only to get exiled? Fuck you, you old bastard, you deserve to die.

I also did enjoy Fallout 2, maybe not as much as I did F1, but playing both games gave me the proper backstory of the Enclave, and while they are bastards, I still am fond of those bastards.

Bethesda doesn't understand how to make a true Fallout game, and they never will. They desecrated, butchered a series of genuinely amazing games, to spew out dumbed down bollocks any moron with one single brain cell can understand.

Fuck Bethesda. Fuck "Fallout 3" and "Fallout 4".

Amen brother. That's what I've been saying ever since Oblivion with Guns came out.

Most people can't look beyond the outdated graphics (which I love) but the original games are my favourite games (and 1 is incredibly better than 2 although 2 is still a magnificent game).

After years of playing both Fallout games extensively I still managed to find interesting things.

You can quip about Westin's hitpoints to Lynette after using the poison on him.

You can blackmail the doctor in Vault City when he asks you for Jet and he will kill you if you ever go to him for treatment (that is absolutely priceless and when I found that out I didn't reload my previous save because it was just so good).

And there are all the little things like starting a fight in New Reno before running into the bar that the Salvatore family runs so before long they will fight your assailants for you (why do your own fighting when you can have rival gangs, pushers and pimps do it for you).

Planting dynamite is something I've enjoyed in both games. Getting some unsuspicious characters drunk before starting a fight never gets old. Plus there is also the fact that NPCs will run out of ammo which is something that you can use to your advantage.

I have to say the next best thing to a modern Fallout game is Wasteland 2 but it doesn't have the same magic. Nostalgia is probably a factor but I think it goes beyond that. The original Fallout games were something special (pun intended) and although Fallout 2 verges on parody at times it still managed to have some incredible depth and a staggering number of options when it came to complete quests.

Fallout 1 blew my mind when I realized that it didn't limit my ability to think out of the box. It's a game in which you can accept a job and double cross the NPC who hired you and that's a huge deal when you consider how much of a difference it actually makes.
