Here is a game that looks like it's worth keeping tabs on:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=772451440

It draws inspiration from Fallout 1 and 2 (among other things) and there is a demo featuring character creation.

The game is scheduled for release in 2018 and hopefully it will live up to the expectations it's created.

It says a lot about how badly Bethesda fucked up Fallout when indies pick up the slack and make the game we actually want instead of what Beth thinks we want.

A lot can change until then, but so far so good. The graphics look not unlike Wasteland 2, which leads me to think this is a Unity engine game.

Bethesda never made a Fallout game, only pale imitations. The irony is that they're making a fortune selling those.

They can't make a game with any depth which is probably the defining element of the original Fallout games.

If you're looking for other indie games that try to recreate a Fallout experience there are games like Krai Mira and more importantly Underrail.

We're both Fallout veterans so I thought that by now it went without saying that Bethesda Fallouts are red-headed stepchilds compared to the greatness of the original games.

Wasteland 2 satisfied my itch for an old Fallout experience, and having backed Wasteland 3 I get little snippets of story, lore about places and so on. It's kind of cool to see a game evolve and go through development.
