| http://www.riftgame.com/en/NOTE! Each "Class" has "sub-classes"or "Souls" they will give suggestions on what to use them with. you do not need to follow this but i assume the game might be harder. Pick what you like.Below i have listed what i picked. One is a set suggested ( the necro mix) the other not.At the time of picking the necro mix i did not know that it was a good combo XD This is my place holder for Rift. as i am not good at typing out awesome threads i will be posting some pictures. i have them, i will upload them tomorrow. So far i am having tons-o-fun in Rift. i am on an alt killing bunnies and kittens to get the tears XD (artifacts.) Jezdamayel- my main lvl 9 at the moment. I will lvl him with my mother so i do not play him when she is not on. (other then crafting that gives no exp) He is a Necromancer/warlock/Chloromancer Necromancer lets me summon a pet. thats cool. what i love about it the most is Chloromancer. i can heal at a higher lvl(i think i will get it about lvl 11 so i can heal myself) and i will get to resurrect at a even higher lvl. (1 person rez and a 10 sec raid rez. where if anyone dies near me they are rezed. I I have many ways to heal myself, my pet and get mana back. very nice. GildedponyHe is my alt. i will gather with him, get artifacts and i do not need to worry if he out lvls my mother. ^____^ For him i mixed 3 classes that do not go together. when you pick a class it makes good suggestions of complementing classes. i made sure to pick three that in no way match each-other on the list XD (none of them are paired with the other) i did this for fun. if i hate it i can go to my trainer and pick another "soul" if i have learned it. Gildedpony is a Rift-blade/Reaver/Beastmaster. i do not know much about WAR classes. i just jam on the buttons i can then press the other ones when i have three swords in the corner. with beastmaster i get a pet. i named him Uglyface.. because he is very ugly. I know with all the souls i have picked with him he gets skills that will generate the "swords" and skills that can be used with them ( the more swords the more powerful 3 max) so it is easy to keep the swords full. they also carry over. so if you have 3 and never use them you will still have them ( i do not know if they stay after death) pictures! I have put spoiler tags on them so they do not take forever to load the page. Jezdamayel- Spoiler:
Gildedpony- Spoiler:
The fight i was in that lagged a little. ( not much) - Spoiler:
One of the mounts on the side i am on. - Spoiler:

| Funnily enough I was looking at this game on Steam just now, as it gets its full release next week. I got burned out on MMO's after World of Warcraft - got tired on the constant grinding, plus some of stupidity of other players. I'm kinda interested in maybe checking it out, although I'm always wary that MMOs are a time drain (and I don't have lots to start with). Could you comment on how Rift shapes up for someone who doesn't want to play 24/7? Thanks Jez, and a great idea to have a thread for this game |

| well if you don't want to party with players you can always just RIFT. when you walk up to one you can join the public group just for the rifting and level that way. leave after. its a nice way to party with out all the bad people.you dont even need to talk XD Quest are not too hard(some you need to be a lvl higher for but thats fine) i feel it is solo friendly. you do not have to play 24 7 to feel accomplished. there is BG ( battlegrounds) and each one has reputation.( friendly and all that) once you get there(friendly and up) you can buy armor from them with the PVP points.the bg for me are fun! the way they do it anyway. i never cared much for WOw's other then wintergrasp and TOL. i play on a PVE server so i am not perma flagged after the starting zone. on PVE the other faction also can not "distroy" your towns. instead NPCs run to the crystal to try to destroy it. you get exp for killing them.
i play with my mother and she can only play certain times of the day. At the moment i am just gathering mats to make my own armor. for some reason i want to do that. there are also instances for the people who would like to do that. in the beta i went up 6 lvls just rifting it was fun and doe snot take too long. that way you can also save the quests for later when you have time.
i just stress one thing. if the mob is ELITE>. that means its ELITE. omg even one 3 lvls below you can take you to the cleaners. other then that AWESOME!.
they have mounts and vanity pets as well if you are a collector.(i am a pet collector) I feel this game is good for people who play all the time or just want to play every now and then.
oh and i just about forgot. mounts. the starting mount is 2plat 52 gold ( i think it is) as soon as you have the plat (the money)you can get it there is no lvl restriction. it was 20(lvl to ride) for the beta but they removed it. if you get the collectors ed like i have you will get a mount that you can start to use as soon as you get to a mail box ( about lvl 6)
if you don't care to do instances you can get GOOD gear from rifting. when you "kill " a rift or the boss in it you will get currency that you can use to buy "blue" and "purple" armor. and thats not just you thats everyone in the party XD. there are solo-able rifts party rifts and raid rifts. you will also get items you can open for random items and armor as well as armor drops from the rift.
i hope any of this helped i am not good at explaining things very well. |

| No, its a very good summary Jez, thanks for typing it all out The other thing I'd be grateful if you comment upon is the stability with regard to servers, bugs, glitches etc. I assume you are playing the pre-release 'beta', which I guess was done to iron out the problems. The full release is March 1st I think, and at that point I suppose that the number of players will rapidly increase, with the effect on server load etc So, how does it play, is it stable and does the world feel populated without being overcrowded? Thanks Jez |

| i need to edit this for the other question. it is awesome really. you know there are a lot of people because when a rift pops up you can get a rather big raid going. but there are not wall to wall people in the area. other then towns. AND not even all the town. i was able to gather items all last night even tho it was first day of head start. the items re spawned accordingly. ( the faster it was picked the faster it comes back in other places.) there have been a few times i have died because re spawn was too fast but thats find. i dont have to pay for durability loss. AND if someone kills a mob i need for a quest if i am near it i will get kill credit. then i can use the item i need on it if need be. the quest in the last part of the "noob" area i did not even have to do anything i got there as someone finished and i got credit. YAY!
about gathering. once someone clicks on it. another person cant. so thats cool! in the beta two people could be on it at the same time. the one starting first being the only tone to get it . its what i have noticed anyway.
i am playing the pre-order head start.(pre orders get to start early) when it went up yesterday i had to wait a bit to get on. not all the severs where up. the whole time i played off and on i only disconnected twice. the is like a 30 min wait to get on. much better then the 2 hour waits i have had with high end servers of warcraft. it is way smoother then the beta. i have my settings on ultra. i took pictures of a big rift fight. i had a little slow down but over all it went very well even tho it was on ultra. unlike AION where i would disconnect every major battle and because it was PVP i would get killed ever 5 sec by the people who power leveled to cap in 2 days. the game is very smooth i feel. my mother and i both commented on that. what i like the most is 1) aoe looting. if you kill 3(i don't know how many is max) mobs next to each other and loot one. it will loot them all. YEY! 2)map help if you are on a quest and the person you need to find if above you or below you. it will tell you on the map!! YAH! 3) water you cant press space to swim up. thats a bummer BUT when you fight underwater the music is muffled/distorted.as is the fighting noises. ( i will need to make sure of this again) 4)making things you got the mats to make 15 pairs of shoes? press "make all" and walk away XD just make sure you have the bag space. 5) the rifts they will drop items that will change your crafted items. to a rouge item or a war item and so on. it will add stats and change the name accordingly. if it does not work it will just make the original item.
the little things make me happy XD
i think i started playing at the 4th beta.at first i wanted to stay away form the game it felt like aion to me. boy was i wrong. they had server stress tests then. at first it was SOOO bad crashing all the time. i heard it was way more hectic in the 1 and 2nd beta. for a stress test they had a time of the day they wanted everyone beta testing to be on. they turned up all rifts and NPC invasions OH MAN it was MADNESS XD. i have a picture of that some place. the map was full of rifts and so many mobs it was crazy. beta after was just awesome so much smoother and everything.
i only had slow down yesterday in the BIG rift as everyone was attacking the mob at once. i don't know how many people where there but it was a lot and i was taking pictures too so .. yah. AWESOME. |

| I found the stall that sold armor Dye. OMG i can feel all my plat wasting away. i LOVE to dye my clothing!! you can also make dye. not the colors that are for sale it seems ( that i know of) the dye that cost the least is the normal colors. ( brown, red, blue, yellow, grey, green, purple and so on) at the high end you have all the light ver of the colors ( light red, light purple and so on) they are 45 gold each. you have have a dark color of every kind as well they are 15 each i think. there are primary and secondary color parts for everything but i noticed on some of my boots and hats---it says there is a secondary but there is not when i look at it before i pick what to dye. i will post some pictures of my armor before i get new armor or dye it again.

| I bought this game yesterday and I've been having a lot of fun with it. It's the first MMORPG I've ever played. I really thought I wouldn't like it. I thought there would be lots of hostile young boys calling me noob and the like. The experience so far with Rift has been quite pleasant. A friend of mine encourage me to try it and I'm glad I did.
I'll post more thoughts about it later after I've gotten deeper into it. |

| I seriously want a mount, but I haven't found a mount merchant yet. I see lots of people riding around on those two-headed turtles that come with the collector edition, but I'm not willing to shell out $10 for that. So, it's only on foot for me. I took part in my first large scale raid last night, which involved an invasion of some sort by some kind of skeleton monsters. One of them was a giant that took like 10 minutes for a huge group of players to take down. It was a really large scale battle and I was quite impressed. My character is primarily a ranger, so I tried to stand back and contribute what I could with my bow, but I still died a few times. My inventory was full by the end of it all. I also joined the Guild that my friend belongs to (the one who encouraged me to get the game). At some point, I earned some kind of trophy for the guild by being the first person on the server to complete some task. Suddenly I started getting all these congratulations messages. The thing is, I'm still not sure exactly what I did. Just dumb luck. I can see how these games can be addictive. |

| a mount is 2 plat and some change ( 2 play 56 gold or something) it use to be lvl 20 for mounts but you can get one as soon as you have the plat.
the side i am on (defiant) we get horses, these gazelle looking things and AWESOME mechanical horses. the other side, get horses these rhino looking things and awesome two tailed wolfs OMG awesome. ( this is what i remember form the beta.)
there is a horse vender on both sides of the new areas( lvl 7 + zone. right after ascending) and the other mount venders are in the main town in that zone.
OH! giant 10 min boss. you did a GIANT awesome rift event. i guess its called a "raid" event. they are awesome!Rift is the only game i remember where it takes 50 lvl 20s to take down a lvl 14 elite LOOL!
i got en achievement for jumping off a bridge and living. LOL! just today my lvl 17 was in the next area for the Defiant and i needed to kill lvl 20 elites. well i cant because when there is a "elite" mob they mean ELITE. a lvl 20 was nice enough to help because she could tank but lacked the dps to take it down in time. that was so cool . a lvl 17 and a lvl 20 taking down a lvl 20 elite. :3
I could never do this with my warlock. my WAR can kill things 2-3- lvls higher then him. i would not try it on my lock. i also take my WAR to the lvl 27+ zone to mine and gather. there is a nice place over there that all the mobs are yellow. ( they wont attack )
you get loot and items form rifting(as you know) and from the battle grounds. i won a nice axe from the BG i was in. (another and i needed on it) |

| That mailbox had it coming.
I'm really enjoying this game. I spent all day Saturday playing it. I don't think I've ever played a game that long it one sitting before in my life. It's funny, because I really thought I wouldn't like MMORPGs. I was one of those people who scoffed at the idea of an Elder Scrolls MMO. The experience is so much more engrossing than I thought it would be. Even if you're just solo adventuring, having other people in the world with you makes it so much more tangible. Sure, a few of them are jerks, but the same is true of real life.
I created four character, one for each calling. I think I prefer Warrior and Cleric. I like hitting things with big sticks, and these classes give me that opportunity. I might keep my rogue, but I was a bit disappointed with my mage. I think my cleric is just as good as an offensive spellcaster, and she can wear chain armor and carry a shield. I was also quite disappointed that the Necromancer's skeleton pet isn't very good at holding aggro. Enemies just run right past him and attack me.
I did my first dungeon yesterday. It was the Realm of the Fae dungeon on the Guardian side. I first made the mistake of attempting to solo it and learned the hard way that you don't solo dungeons, at least not unless you're really high level. The first monsters I encountered killed me in a few blows, and my character is a Paladin. That's not good.
I joined a guild and, with luck, a few of the members were forming a party to tackle this quest, so I joined in. A group of three of us went in and we, too, got slaughtered, though we made it a bit farther.
So, one of the people in the party called in a cleric to do healing, and the cleric brought a higher level warrior who had been through the dungeon before. He led us through the whole thing, and they stayed in character the whole time, bantering back and forth. It ended up playing out better than the quests in many single player RPGs, with some genuinely laugh-out-loud comments being thrown about. As the lowest level character in the party, I really felt like a young recuit getting her first taste of action with veterans.
This has somewhat dampened my anticipation for Dragon Age 2, which is coming out next week. I don't know if I'll want to stop playing Rift long enough to play that.
I haven't done any PvP stuff yet, and I'm not really sure how the Warfronts work.
I'll try to post some screens, if I remember to take them. I never seem to think of it when I'm in-game.
What server are you on? I'm on Estrael.

| with necro there are 3 types of pet. the 2nd ( with 16 points i think it is) is a tank and he holds well enough that i have never pulled off him if i let him hit first. the small skelly is useless for tanking. I myself did not know this until a few days in .
i have yet to be in a instance.
i have done the battle grounds.
the lvl 10-19 start BG is nice. its like capture the flag but with a giant shard that will make you twice your size, mark you with a blue light that goes to the sky and will damage you.( the player carrying it. you can only pass it off when you die or get killed by a player then another can pick it up. (at 20 up there is bgs for this as well)
at lvl 20 you can go to the codex. this is a big BG where you touch a flag to claim it. there are 4 total the more your team has the more points you get. (this one also has bgs at 30 up i think)
i think there might be more kinds of bg at 30 i d not know yet.
you gain exp and green items do drop in bg. when a toon dies you can loot them for money, crap that sells to a vender well or sometimes green items that the group gets to need or greed on.
i am not able to get dragon age 2 so my excitment Da2 has been down a little. i am on deepwood. i play defiant. |

| Okay, here are some screens from me. It seems like every time I log in for my necromancer character, who has a tendency to get himself killed anyway, the place seems to be overrun with a huge invasion. This is what happened when I logged in because I just wanted to get the mail. - Spoiler:
Here is my Paladin, Mere (I guess you could say my main character). This is in Sanctum. - Spoiler:

And a few of the approach to Gloamwood Pines. - Spoiler:

| Yeah, in that picture of my mage during the big invasion, I could barely move from that spot without getting into a fight. There were dark rifts just everywhere, and that elite mob was standing right between me and the mailbox. All I wanted was the get the items I had sent from my cleric artificer!

| canceled rift. nothing for mom and i to do with just the two of us and no one seems to want to play with others on our server. we might play if her friend decides to play but if not i do not mind. i had it for about 3 months and had tons of fun with it . i have no regrets with this game unlike AION (i miss that game soo.. WHY is it PVP only ... sigh)or hellgate. i have a few FTP on my pc at the moment(including the new hellgate lOL) one of them is 18+ because of gore XD. so far there is one i just adore but the Voice acting is balls. i mean it is very very bad.
i think mom will play witcher 2 and the like until skyrim and i will just ftp(free to play) my Way to Never dead. note i have no money so i cant get anything cool in the free to plays ( item malls) but at least i DONT need anything in the malls.(in the games i am playing)
RIFT is a fun game!!! do not get me wrong. i am sure new to mmos would love it it is just i am... let me see... a 7+ year mmo vet ( give or take. whenever FF11 came out) and i am jaded i guess. i would like duke nukem ^___^
i think i will lock this thread. ( in a bit) |
