K66 Shanzhai phone VIDEO TOUR

I've played with the phone for some time now, and despite not being able to use any of the network functions -- I think I accidentally shipped my active Fido SIM back with the T28s. I know they will ship it back to me (well, if they ever receive the damn thing) but it's frustrating because I am really amped up about this phone, and I can't wait to test it. Purely on a signal front it looks good, but I'll get a final verdict on that once I test it with my GSM SIM. Assuming that it's good, I definitively will get more of those Shanzhai phones, now that I know FP is super-speedy (as opposed to DX, it will be a month tomorrow since they got back from work and nobody has even attended to my order, plus the phone is back-order. I ordered the K66 AFTER Chinese New Year, and my order speedily found it's way to me. I paid for the phone on 17/02, and it came in today. Pretty damned good. FP will definitively get more buisness from me in the future. But back to the phone, yes, this is a flash on the back of the phone. Both cameras are VGA at 640x480, and I can switch between the front or back camera at will. Pictures are okay, a true digital camera this is not, but catching quick memories on the go, it's fine. I haven't found a camcorder option, but really, considering this is a $40 phone, I am willing to dismiss this as irrelevant. Music player is just fine, a little sluggish, but it plays music just fine. The bundled headset is okay, but the problem is that the headset uses the microUSB port, so your own headphones is a big no-no. Vibrate is pretty good as well, but a little on the weak side. Overall, so far so good.

Yeah, it looks unlike anything else out there, and this made this phone that much more attractive to me. Also, nowadays, GSM phones are smaller and lighter than ever, and this is the case with this Shanzhai. I don't know if the video really does justice, as it's sort of hard to get a good idea of the scale, but it is a VERY SMALL phone, and I mean that in a good way. I can stash it into one of my pockets, and I don't even feel it's presence. If I dare say, in thickness, the Shanzhai phone is very similar to my piece of shit RAZR. It's also a fraction of the price of a regular phone, this one costed US$45.22. Unlocked right out of the box, as well. I really see no more reason to buy regular phones.

Jez, it is my understanding from the box of mine that it's also available in either white, red, or purple, As you can see, I bought the black one. The keypad and the bottom of the phone are the two colors that change depending on which color you want. I also mentioned the Dual-SIM/Dual-Network capability, and that can be interesting. I was thinking of having one personal line on one SIM, and all my work-related stuff on a second SIM. Imagine the look on the salesperson's face when I ask him/her if I would get a discount for two lines, and when they ask which phones I want, I just whip this one, and show the Dual SIM slots. XD I'm actually fighting the urge of ordering a second one through FocalPrice, as at least they are FAST, FASTER than <d>ucking DealXtreme. Yeah, Xtreme as in Xtremely long wait, and Xtremely deficient customer service. Oh yeah, the menus are yellow and red and black. Just awesome. The flashlight works pretty well, and it fits in the car gimmick of the phone. Of course, I cannot test it as a phone yet, but I am dying to. It is compatible with 850/1900MHz so it will work on AT&T/T-Mo just like it works on Rogers/Fido in Canada. It also has 900/1800, which is handy if you ever go on a trip to Europe or something.

i told my mother about the phone. how good do you think it holds up? this might be a good phone for my father. he likes flashy things but the price is awesome so everyone is happy. he breaks phones constantly.

It's too soon to tell, Jez, however, most of the phone is metal so it should stand up for some abuse. Prices are great, a fraction of the price of a regular phone, and they also come unlocked out of the box, which is something to consider as well. I've got fatter paychecks coming the next couple of weeks, and I am seriously thinking about ordering another one. I remember seeing a rugged phone that looked a Sonim phone, this one should take an asswhooping.
