Thanks, Daniel. My Pharaoh/Cleo disks are busted. But if the Emperor ones gets finished I might install and play. Not a bad game and you can tweak it. Now if someone would do the Funatics viking series that would make me very happy.
Actually Emperor isn't too bad played in 1024x768 stretched to fit... sure it has the side bars but it is big, easy on the eye and just as addictive as ever!
Performance wise old games play differently on different systems so there is no telling whether it will work or not beforehand.
I have some trouble with IWD2 on my laptop I still get black squares and trust me on that I've done everything so it's either sluggish without the squares or fast with black squares.
In my experience BG2 didn't pose as many problems.
Daniel, you tempt me to install Emperor. Now where did I put that disk?
I may try Eighth Wonder of the World from Funatics. Mostly I love making maps for that game. See if I can stretch it. If I recall correctly it came out in the early 2000s.
Remember you need the Emperor 1.0.1.0 patch (and the no cd crack if you don't want to play with the CD in).
The Heaven Games site is down at the moment so no walkthroughs or forum for it. Works perfectly in Win7 but don't bother to register (Sierra is gone now). Remember to set 1024x768 once in game.
Just tried Emperor on this 2010 Mac Pro - turn the scroll speed way down (30-40%) and don't try raising up the game speed to 100% cos the guys will run around like ants at silly speed.
Looks like the 3.33GHz CPU is a little fast for the game. It will only be single threaded of course so the other 5 cores will be idle.
It was a real blast form the past going back to the Village of Banpo.
Oh, and I tried to find a no cd crack but they were either hosted on "Get your Russian Lovelies Here" sites or had the game start hacked to remove the tutorial and early missions. Still looking.
Man, I still have my copy of Baldur's Gate II sitting here. I've only played about an hour. I don't know what it is about it, but it just isn't sucking me in like it seems to have done for all of you.
I know it is a long wait but it should be fun once you get it. If you can't wait that long, an old copy of BG I and II should be available from somewhere to keep you going.
Oh, and no news yet on the Emperor widescreen hack... but I will keep a close watch on that thread.
Hi Daniel, I have an old copy of BG I and II. It is my eye sight that is the problems. I tried it a year or so ago and the graphics are just too small to be any fun for me. If they are fixing bugs it will be worth the wait.
Thanks for the update on the Emperor.

BGE is now available for pre-installing but will not be available for play until the 28 TH.

I pre-loaded the game several days ago. I tried to launch the game today quite a few times. No luck. Tried to contact beandog.com as per instructions. No luck. I left a post on their forum and hope maybe I can get some satisfaction.
I am not happy.

I'm going to be going with the iPad version initially, so I haven't purchased it yet. I hope they get things sorted out.
The first way of installing didn't work. I had to use the beandog client and I have to launch the game from the client. So far no problems doing it that way.
I have been through the tutorial. It is excellent. One of the best I have seen. I did find it slow. Lots of lags before going on to the next part. Maybe it is my machine. However I couldn't find a skip button. I checked options but didn't see it. the graphics option is also poor. Maybe when the game actually starts things will improve. Most of the people who purchased this edition have played the game before and are BG fans. They know the controls by heart. The younger people who bought it out of curiosity to see what us oldies were carrying on about probably won't have the patience for it.
"You must gather your part, etc". is still there. I hope this game can be modded. First modder need is someone to get rid of that irritating voice.
I'll return.

Alright, I have been playing for quite a few hours now. The graphics for the cutscenes/movies are good but I am not impressed with the game graphics. Maybe I have forgotten what the orginal graphics were like. That game was played about seven or more years ago on an old machine with the DLC (?) monitor. Either 15 or 17 inches. So even with a video card that isn't that great for game playing the graphics are better.
What voice acting there is is alright but not great. The new character Neeka is good, she has a very young almost little girl voice. A lot of conversation with the player character compared to the others. Jahaira's voice is awful.
If you have the original game with mods I do not recommend gettting this game. If you have never played BG and are curious about what we oldies are raving about it is a good deal at $20 US.

GoG.com have the original BG1 Complete Saga at $10 and it is sometimes on offer.

That is a great price for the series. Thanks for letting us know.

I've read that they removed the opening quote by Friedrich Nietzsche:
“He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster; when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you."
If it's the case then I have to say it is a pretty dumb idea and that their view of enhancing a classic game is only to make it dumb...
This quote alone sums up everything that Baldur's Gate is all about i.e. the struggle between the Good and Evil within. That's the whole point (and in that respect it can be compared to The Lord of the Rings).
To remove this quote is to conceal this aspect from the less perceptive gamers among us. It is a shame as understanding the quote can only open up new interpretations about what is at stake for the Bhaalspawn and what it means to struggle with the essence of the Lord of Murder.
I've also read that this edition adds a few followers making use of classes from BG2 and that the aventure that is added consists in a series of fights in an arena (the idea may not be bad but it sounds like a repetitive hack and slash sequence especially if they've been lazy about its execution).
All in all the only good thing for old BG players is that it may make the game more playable on recent computers. That being said I'm not sure it's worth spending money when we have Easy Tutu and so many mods that are simply awesome. As far as I'm concerned a modded NPC like Finch is a valid option when playing BG1.

Unless I'm mistaken the "Complete Saga" doesn't include BG2 and Throne of Bhaal, it's simply BG1 and Tales of the Sword Coast.
I really recommend getting BG2 and Throne of Bhaal in order to benefit from all the extra options (like Kits for instance which seem to be included in the Enhanced Edition).
It's funny to watch and listen to these guys demonstrating the game. I can't believe anyone working for IGN can be that clueless about such a classic title. This is simply hilarious.

I haven't played the Black Pits yet so can't comment. As far as I can tell the main enhancement is to make it easier to play on HD and widescreen monitors.
I have picked up Neera, the wild mage, and she is cute, nicely voiced and has a quest.
I agree, Carabas, I think Overhaul failed to understand the depth of the Bhaalspawn story. The conflict within ourselves. I can only recommend this version to people who have never played Baldur's Gate;
One plus, I am finding Imoen less irritating in this version.
